The MITRE Naval Aviation Systems Department’s (N233) mission is to advance Naval Aviation solutions with urgency ensuring warfighter dominance against current and future adversaries in defense of our nation. This is accomplished by delivering timely, effective, and sustainable capabilities to ensure the warfighter’s mission success and safe return home.
The Naval Aviation Department is seeking a systems engineer in the McLean VA area to lead the transition of mid-tier acquisition program to a standard program of record acquisition model for the Navy’s Advanced Systems Technology Program Office (ASTPO). The applicant must have experience leading systems engineering tasks, development, aircraft integration, and transition to production. Most of the work effort will take place in MITRE and Government classified facilities. The applicant should be comfortable working outside of their knowledge areas. Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Responsibilities include
Lead systems engineering activities/events to shape the direction of the Navy’s next generation of aviation-based surveillance systems
Determine feasibility of proposed system designs considering cost, schedule, performance and sustainment
Analyze existing system top level requirements, performance parameters, and conduct system trade analyses to define new system capabilities and requirements
Define engineering baselines and actively manage them via Engineering Review Boards
Work with T&E leads to complete and assess system capabilities and limitations based on documentation of verification efforts
Help transition program from documents-based system engineering to digital-based system engineering approach
Collaborate with other engineering activities, and a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to define the program’s technical, acquisition, and life cycle direction
Basic Qualifications:
Typically, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or Masters degree with 3 years of relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
5+ years of relevant experience with systems engineering lifecycle activities (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, sustainment)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain an maintain a TS/SCI
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline and a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or Masters degree with 6 years of relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. development, testing, deployment, sustainment)
Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex challenges.
Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on systems engineering research and development initiatives.
Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications.
Effective team leadership and communication skills with the ability to present highly technical material to a diverse audience
Demonstrated experience in performing analytical work
Active TS/SCI

$111,000 - $138,500 - $166,000 Annual
