Roles & Responsibilities:
As a key member of MITRE's Systems Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with mission specialists, engineers, and government stakeholders to tackle the intricate challenges of systems engineering critical to national security. You will gain deep insights into sponsor missions and leverage your technical expertise to drive innovation and problem-solving. At the culmination of the program, you will become an integral part of MITRE’s National Security team, equipped with a strong foundation in systems engineering, poised to lead future endeavors within the company.
From architecting resilient systems to ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies, you will leverage your systems engineering prowess, critical thinking, and collaborative skills to address a diverse array of challenges essential to mission success. Your responsibilities will encompass:
Development and assessment of intricate system architectures using industry-standard languages such as SysML/UML.
Evaluation and comparison of alternative architectures through qualitative and quantitative methodologies, providing valuable insights to inform decision-making.
Identification and articulation of major uncertainties within system architectures, along with associated risks and opportunities, devising strategies to mitigate and capitalize on them.
Support for requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes to ensure alignment with evolving mission needs.
Close collaboration with government sponsors and internal teams to identify critical engineering challenges and engineer effective solutions.
Application of systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-based decision-making by sponsors, ensuring the delivery of high-value capabilities.
Promotion of collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization, harnessing diverse perspectives and solutions to address sponsor challenges.
Clear and concise communication of highly technical analyses and recommendations through written and verbal channels to sponsors and partners.

Basic Qualifications:
Typically, a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and system-of-systems architecture.
Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in systems engineering, including SysML/UML, Cameo, MagicDraw, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Rhapsody.
Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI.
Flexibility to work on-site as required by the position.
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors and 8 years of experience in systems engineering principles, tools, and methodologies, with a focus on defense or national security applications or Master’s and 6 years of experience.
Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.
Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies and concepts.
Active DOD Top Secret clearance with SCI
Advanced expertise in systems engineering, including but not limited to:
Advanced system architecture design and analysis.
In-depth understanding and application of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles and tools.
Proficiency in system-of-systems engineering concepts and methodologies.
Experience in systems integration and interoperability testing.
Familiarity with systems engineering standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, DoDAF, UPDM).
Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition and requirements processes.
Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications.
Advanced proficiency in relevant programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex challenges.
Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on systems engineering research and development initiatives.
