Department Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Principal Strategist for Policy and Security to join our Center for Policy and Strategic Competition.

Roles & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Senior Principal Strategist for Policy and Security with an expert understanding of foreign policy, national and coalition security, and US relations. This role involves overseeing the development and creation of innovative solutions, reviewing and developing engagement strategies, and mentoring a technical team. The successful candidate will also be responsible for executing integration activities and liaising with the U.S. Government community, Ally and Partner Government communities, as well as senior stakeholders, other FFRDCs, and industry. Additionally, this individual will be tasked with developing and implementing strategies that inform and influence national-level policies and decision-making. This position requires a deep understanding of national level decision making dynamics and their impact on policy formation.

  • Help shape and inform the U.S. government’s approach to the integration of national and economic security

  • Collaborate and lead planning and engagement with senior government officials on critical topics of national and coalition security to create cross-cutting solutions for U.S. stakeholders across the IC, DoD, and interagency, including other FFRDCs and industry.

  • Maintain currency on EOP policy priorities, initiatives, activities and related pursuits by Congress and the policy advocacy community.

  • Provide input to and potentially lead internal research in areas to increase U.S. competitiveness, align research with cross-sponsor priorities, and help transition research into FFRDC projects.

  • National security policy to include formulation of data driven recommendations related to MITRE’s activities supporting the DoD and IC in their development and use of cyber capabilities, as well as policy recommendations for improving cyber security to include critical infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Experience with EOP policy development, and the interagency and international coordination that supports that process.

  • Experience with working across multiple government organizations, including DoD, DoS, FFRDCs, policy makers, and/or industry

  • Understanding of strategic competition and its relation to national security and international norms, behaviors, and organizations.

  • Program management experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multi-million-dollar budgets.

  • Record of success scoping and shaping desired end-states into technically feasible projects.

  • Experience briefing, positively influencing, and collaborating with senior government officials.

  • Experience leading diverse teams to meet non-ordinary objectives, absent direct supervisory/management control of team members.

  • Existing connections and stature within the federal policy community, and a demonstrated ability to develop new collaborative relationships.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.

  • Experience directly advising and supporting senior U.S. government officials.

  • Experience evaluating and leveraging data, models, and tools for national security objectives.

  • Regional expertise related to China and/or Russia, including language proficiency.

  • Recognizes opportunities to make things better and formulates a new or different path forward, leveraging input and insights from others to do so.

  • Firsthand experience leading policy development and implementation on a variety of topics from within the EOP (i.e., former White House staff).

  • Demonstrated history of impacting policy development and supporting implementation of policy in action.

  • Experience developing impactful policy artifacts (such as papers, workshops/conferences, and/or informative videos).
