Department Summary:

The Performance and Solutions Engineering Department, within the MITRE Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH), applies broad homeland security, intelligence, public safety, and resilience expertise, a deep understanding of risk, and a deep understanding of our sponsors' challenges to develop and advance innovative solutions which enable current and future homeland security operations from the tactical to the enterprise levels. The CSH provides systems engineering and integration support to planning, programming, acquisition (including concept exploration and early prototyping), and evaluation of capabilities for homeland security.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analysis of intelligence infrastructure, integration & dependencies underpinning intelligence capabilities (e.g., collaboration systems, collection systems, analysis and production systems)

  • Identify gaps and recommendations to integrate or modernize intelligence capabilities

  • Understand and apply system life cycle and system of systems (SoS) concepts to address enterprise problems.

  • Technically contribute to technology assessments and the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems for government sponsors

  • Assess current & emerging acquisition and resourcing structures underpinning intelligence capabilities

  • Advise on homeland security intelligence enterprise architecture and DHS/IC level governance processes

  • Contribute to teams with expertise in one or more of the following technologies or practice areas: software engineering, requirements engineering, systems architecture, test and evaluation, system design, system life-cycle management, quality management, design of experiments, or process analysis and improvement.

  • Interface with technical experts and leaders in Government and MITRE organizations and build trusted relationships.

  • Collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge creation or sharing and integration within and across sponsor work programs as appropriate.

  • Support MITRE's efforts to develop work programs with new sponsors.

  • Support internal activities to develop advanced systems engineering capabilities.

  • Promote the advancement and application of systems thinking and enterprise engineering.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience in diverse national or homeland security intelligence domain roles

  • Experience in a consulting role, advising government leaders and demonstrating professionalism in advocating technology and program directions.

  • Demonstrated success in providing sponsors with the data, analysis, and strategies required to address critical issues, setting, and meeting objectives, and advancing short and long-term program goals.

  • Effective in communicating and interacting with technical staff, analysts, and operators with a range of experience and responsibility.

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in STEM or a homeland security relevant field

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Experience working with one or more Government agencies

  • Task or project management or technical lead experience

  • Coaching and mentoring skills

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and cultivate trusted partnerships with sponsors and key stakeholders
