Roles and Responsibilities:

MITRE is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. As a talented individual with an engineering background, you will be eager to apply your expertise in developing real-time solutions that address user needs. You will play a key role in creating innovative ways to deliver mission value rapidly through automation, defining new approaches to tackle complex problems, and developing proofs of concept and prototypes. Additionally, you will conduct studies and analyses to support decision-making by our sponsors, evaluate emerging capabilities, and provide independent technical advice. Candidates will:

  • Assist with defining, developing, prioritizing, and executing the project work plan with specific objectives, deliverables, and sponsor outcomes.

  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with customers and leaders across company laboratories, work programs, and portfolios.

  • Develop and implement advanced data-driven solutions to complex problems using machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis techniques.

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, data storage systems, and data processing workflows.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis, data visualization, and feature engineering to support the development of predictive models and decision support tools.

  • Evaluate the performance of machine learning models and algorithms, and optimize them for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise reports, presentations, and visualizations.

  • Stay current with the latest developments in data science, machine learning, and related technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve existing solutions and develop new capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically Bachelor’s in data science/analytics, mathematics, or a related technical field and 5 years of relevant experience or 3 years and aMasters / PhD in related technical field and 1 to 3 years of relevant experience

  • Be eligible for a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

  • Understanding in one or more specific technical domains (data science methods, modeling techniques, research approaches, etc.)

  • Experience with data engineering/analytics tools and associated programming languages (python, R, MATLAB, or other relevant languages)

  • Ability to work within a cross functional team to identify research topics, analyze data, develop models, perform testing, and interpret findings/results.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in data science/analytics, mathematics, or a related technical field

  • Experience with data manipulation, cleaning, and preprocessing using tools such as Pandas, NumPy, or similar.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Tableau.

  • A strong understanding of mission and digital engineering concepts and how they apply to modeling, prototyping, and experimentation.

  • An understanding of analytical simulation and prototyping.

  • 5+ Years experience analyzing data in a transportation and/or logistics domain.

  • Active TS Clearance
