Department Summary:

The Cyber Effects and Information Warfare (IW) Department (N142) is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer for the Unified Platform (UP) Project.

UP is the infrastructure provider to the Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA) and manager of the Big Data Platform (BDP) technical baseline for Services and Agencies across the Department of Defense (DoD). Unified Platform (UP) directly supports United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) and the other JCWA components, including Joint Cyber Command and Control (JCC2), Joint Cyber Weapons (JCW), Joint Cyber Access Platform (JCAP), and Persistent Cyber Training Environment (PCTE). JCWA and its constituent projects constitute one of a select few MITRE Critical Programs (MCPs). As a MITRE technical advisor to UP, you will help UP build and improve its data and developer platforms for the JCWA. These platforms are and will be used to develop new capabilities in support of our cyber warfighters, keeping our critical infrastructure and key resources secure and projecting cyber effects abroad. As a MITRE team member, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of talented professionals in the fields of systems engineering, cybersecurity, data science, software engineers, developers, and mission engineers to deliver wholistic end-to-end solutions. As a technical advisor to the Air Force sponsor, you will identify opportunities, develop solutions, conduct hands-on research and prototyping, and provide recommendations and guidance to UP.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Build and apply hands-on expertise to a complex software engineering and data ecosystem

  • Provide overall direction and oversite of technical efforts and ensure quality of data-driven technical products and/or solutions with actionable recommendations for the sponsor.

  • Provide technical oversight to the development/deployment of Joint Cyber operational capabilities in an agile manner to meet the speed of the evolving threat

  • Leverage DevSecOps techniques to rapidly deploy and iterate upon capabilities,

  • Working directly with stakeholders to prioritize and deliver priority capabilities

  • Engage in collaborative research efforts with other MITRE projects, external FFRDCs, UARCs, and industry/academia partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance Eligibility

  • Demonstrated competency in one more technical fields below that are critical to the program’s success

  • Cloud Service Providers

  • Big Data architecture solutions/component stacks

  • Big Data analytics tools and technologies

  • Cloud infrastructure and orchestration

  • Cloud storage solutions and formats

  • Database Query languages and formats

  • Data Catalogs and Metastores

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, software engineering, or related field; or 3 years and Master’s degree, or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Motivation to expand knowledge and skills and assume responsibility

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top Secret SCI Clearance

  • 5+ years of experience acting as a lead of a diverse multidisciplinary technical team

  • Understanding of Cyber Operations, Joint Programs and Combatant Commander Priorities

  • MS +6 years of experience in named technical skills

  • Experience with the MITRE cyber platform, internal research projects, and MITRE Labs

  • Track record of innovative thinking

  • Demonstrated record of technical team leadership
