Department Summary:
Do you have a cyber operations background and an interest in space? Have you learned about or worked with Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) space systems, and have an interest in defending our nation’s most valuable space systems against cyber threats? The Cyber Infrastructure Protection Innovation Center (CIPIC) is seeking cyber operations engineers with a background in space systems in the Modling, Intelligence, and Sim for Critical Infrastructure department (L542).
Roles and Reponsbilities:
Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in cybersecurity to government sponsors.
Provide recommendations to government sponsors and contractors on the technical implementation of cybersecurity best practices throughout acquisition lifecycle.
Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across MITRE, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), and Government to develop optimal solutions for the space enterprise.
Lead the development of cyber threat intelligence reports to assist sponsors in understanding applicable threats and inform new cybersecurity requirements.
Assist in the validation of implemented cybersecurity requirements to secure next-generation space systems.
Conduct cyber mission dependency, criticality, mission failure, and adversary cyberattack scenario analyses to inform design of space resilient architectures.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Experience or interest in supporting R&D efforts to address space architecture challenges and needs.
Knowledge of U.S. space architectures, such as DoD, IC, Civil or Commercial.
Knowledge of Space Command and Control (C2) and/or sensor systems.
Possess working knowledge on core cybersecurity principals, policies, and standards.
Familarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, D3FEND, Aerospace SPARTA, and NIST CSF.
Experience with the Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, JSIG, and other related security regulations.
Understanding of Cloud Computing technologies and best practices to include Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Kubernetes.
Strong interpersonal, briefing, and communication skills.
This position requires an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance and the ability to be granted and maintain access to Special Access Programs.
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree from an accredited program in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related discipline.
Experience with requirements documentation and program/mission gap analysis.
Familiarity with broad DoD or IC organizational and governance structures, policy generation processes, life cycle acquisition processes, and/or requirements processes.
Experience interacting with multiple levels of government and military leadership.
Experience delivering complex large-scale software-driven systems in DoD or IC through Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) frameworks.

$151,000 - $188,500 - $226,000 Annual
